My wife and I moved our family to Idaho Falls from Henderson, NV in July 2016. When we were in Henderson, we used to go out for desserts (mostly cheesecake or brownies and ice cream). When we came here, we didn’t know where to go. So we asked our realtor for suggestions. She gave us some places, but these were restaurants that served desserts as an afterthought.
We always thought that someone needed to start a dessert-focused shop. After many times of saying this, I thought that maybe we could be the ones to do it. Since we liked going out for cheesecake, and Idaho Falls doesn’t seem to have a cheesecake place, I thought I would start there.
We’re going to take this in baby steps. I’m looking at tackling this by feeling out the following questions:
- Can I make a cheesecake (and other desserts) that people will like?
- Can we do marketing or market research that would suggest a place like this would be successful?
- Can we actually manage and run a dessert shop?
Since I think questions 2 and 3 don’t matter if I can’t make a cheesecake that people are excited about, I’m starting out the gate by experimenting with various cheesecake recipes to see if I can find one that I like and others seem to like too.
