Homemade Macncheese for School Lunch

Making this macncheese is three main steps: (1) making the noodles, (2) making the cheese sauce, and (3) combining the cheese sauce and noodles.

Ingredients

  • 1 C Elbow noodles (or a noodle of your choosing)
  • 3 T Butter
  • 3 T Flour
  • 2 C Milk
  • 3 C Cheddar Cheese (shredded)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Noodles

  • Prepare the noodles according to the package instructions.
  • Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  • While the noodles are cooking, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Make the Cheese Sauce

  • In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Add the flour to the melted butter and cook until golden brown, stirring regularly. It should take approximately 5 minutes.
  • Add the milk and stir gently until the mixture becomes smooth and bubbly. This should be 5-8 minutes.
  • Add the cheddar cheese and stir until evenly melted.

Step 3: Combine the noodles and sauce

  • Add the drained noodles to the sauce pot. Stir until evenly combined.
  • If you'd like, add salt & pepper to taste.
